With so many coming in and going to homes, we often don't have time to profile every rat with photos and information online
We will need:
-
A photo of your cage/where you are planning on keeping your rats
*If you don't have one yet or are unsure on what's appropriate, have a look below!*
-
The number, gender, age of rats you currently keep (if any)
-
Ownership experience
-
Gender of rats you are looking to adopt
-
If under 18, a legal guardian's attendance at adoption
If adopting or potentially adopting on the day of a meet and greet, please bring your own carrier/box to transport your rats home!
Examples of POOR cages include:
The ammonia from their waste can cause severe respiratory infections without proper ventilation, this is never suitable for rats.
These cages are marketed towards mice and rats but are cruel and offer physically dangerous accessories.
With bars on the floor, this cage offers the risk of bumble foot as well as being severely undersized.
This cage is too small, offers no room for exploration or enough enrichment inside the cage as well as bar flooring.
This cage is still too close to a tank which will have severe ammonia build up risks.
This cage is undersized and offers hard plastic tubes known for building ammonia as well as fatally trapping rats.
This cage offers no room for exercise or the ability to add in much enrichment. Bigger than some, but still not suitable.
Marketed to rats and mice, these cages are cramped even for a mouse. Most wheels are dangerous causing spinal damage.
Wood cages/wardrobe cages pose the risk of wood and varnish toxicity, being easily escapable and allowing ammonia build up.
Examples of GREAT cages include:
This cage is on the smaller side but completely appropriate. Removing the levels will make more room for fun accessories!
Small bar spacing, a few great accessories to start. Trash the wheel and water bottle, but the rest is fantastic!
A stylish cage with small bar spacing and a lovely deep pan!
A great cage with lots of room for activity and added fun!
A tall cage with deep base for bedding is a great choice for your rats!
This easily accessible cage with pans for loose bedding is a mansion and often on sale!
